This is a serious safety hazard reported by many, many G5, G6 and G8 owners with model years between 2005 and 2010 in particular. The recall didn't happen until 2012 which was after the 2010 G6 was built. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked while driving 35 mph. At least once or twice a day upon starting the vehicle there is no power steering and I have to turn the car off and restart the vehicle to regain power steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing who confirmed the failure was in the steering column power assist.
I turned the car off so that it would reset but it only worked for about fifteen minutes then it did it again. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. This is an older truck but it's very clean and low miles. I was driving around 55 mph when I heard a dinging noise and lost power steering. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Should an accident occur, all models feature front, driver and passenger airbag system that enhances occupant safety.
The failure and current mileage was 51,000. Please get this issue resolved. Taking the car to the dealer today. I have not got into a car accident yet and plan on putting it in the shop tomorrow, but this seems to be a problem numerous owners are having. I thought it was a one-time occurrence but it happens every time I drive the car for more than 10 minutes. They really need to expand the recall before someone gets hurt.
Im sure if I would have let it go a few more days, the power steering would have cut off while driving, or the car would have jerked so badly it would have caused a crash. The contact stated that the steering wheel would vibrate while changing lanes and when driving at various speeds. Car had plenty of fuel, I had just replaced the battery roughly 6 months prior to that happening. You have no warning when your power steering is going to kick off. For 2010, panic brake assist is now standard on coupe and convertible while power lumbar is standard across the board.
I've done enough research and noticed there is a recall on this model up until 2009 model year but not on the 2010? We made great efforts to collect all of them, but its amount is so immense that we could easily miss something. Here you can find such useful information as the fuel capacity, weight, driven wheels, transmission type, and others data according to all known model trims. Not only does my power steering kick off all the time now but my steering wheel constantly jerks to the left, even while the car is stopped. I just find it strange that this problem is not being address and why there is a problem with this in these cars. Of course I'll have to pay for it because no recall has been issued for this model.
When I turned it back on the power steering had returned. Interior features such as standard air-conditioning, theft-deterrent audio system with speed compensated volume, and chrome accents further enhance this cars appeal. Please help to get this issue resolved. . I have not had the problem again but it was a very scary experience.
Seems I'm not the only one with this problem and lack of or loss of steering could cause a major issue! The headlights turned off, steering wheel locked and brakes were not reacting at all due to the vehicle not been running. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vehicle was not repaired. We were both really scared as the vehicle would not turn the lights on even after I manually tried to turn them on. They all use pretty much the same eps.
It was snowing so everyone is going slow. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel started to vibrate and seized with the illumination of the warning light. Not looking forward to it. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the failure could not be determined. Im on my second G6 first one was great.
This is a very dangerous defect. It has also lost power steering while driving 3 times now in the past 2 weeks which leads me to believe it is getting worse and is a very serious safety issue. Similar to the sedan and coupe variants, the G6 Convertible is scheduled to arrive into authorized dealerships as soon as mid-2009. The vehicle was not repaired. I didn't want a 4 Dr, or 4 wheel drive. The 2009 Pontiac G6 Convertible is a bit different when compared to the other models in the new G6 vehicle range, especially due to the fact that Pontiac installed a more powerful engine, namely a 3. The steering wheel regained normal function after the vehicle was restarted.
I understand there was an existing recall with this same problem that should be expanded to include the 2010 Pontiac G6 and not just the G5. This is the type truck I have been looking for,. There was great customer service and I will be expecting to come back if there are any needs for car purchases in the future, highly recommend, love my car!
